Frequently Asked Questions

How much will my tree service cost?

Many factors go into an estimate for tree work as each tree, and each property is different. A+ Tree & Crane Services base their pricing on access issues, the size, and condition of the tree, the level of difficulty involved, and the equipment that is required to perform the scope of work. Our estimators incorporate all these factors into the estimate to determine the price of your project, and then you are sent a formal estimate through email or postal mail.

Do I need to be home during the estimate or tree work?

No, most of our customers are working during the day, so we frequently provide our services without our customers present. When it comes to an estimate, it is helpful that our customer gives detailed information and mark trees if possible. Our crews perform tree services daily without customers present.

What should I expect the day of my scheduled tree work or estimate?

Many customers have many questions when it comes to the day of their scheduled work or estimate.

  • Should I be home?
  • What time will they arrive?
  • Do I need to do anything to prepare?
  • What if it is supposed to rain?

These questions and many more can be answered by reviewing our Terms and Conditions section. If you do not find your specific answer there, please contact our office, and we will try to answer any other questions you may have.

What should I know about insurance before hiring a tree service company?

A+ Tree & Crane Service has $2,000,000 in General Liability and Workers’ Compensation and an additional $1,000,000 in an umbrella policy that protects our customers and employees. The most important aspect of tree removal services is SAFETY. This includes the safety of our customers, their property, and our employees. As a homeowner, you should always verify certificates of General Liability insurance and Workers’ Compensation before proceeding with any company performing tree work.

The liability insurance is for the protection of your home and property. Any damage that occurs directly or indirectly as a result of the tree removal will be covered. Most insurance policies include personal injury. Personal injury does not cover any employees that are injured on the job. Workers’ Compensation insurance, however, does cover employees that get hurt. It covers any injury, disease, or death that occurs that is a result of employment and relieves the property owner of any liability of those conditions that are a result of employment. If someone gets injured on your property, the injured individual can hold you personally liable for his injuries if the contractor does not have the proper workers’ compensation insurance.

If a contractor does not have liability insurance and damages your property, it would be almost impossible to be compensated for your damages. If a contractor can’t afford the proper insurance, they will not be financially capable of repairing your house in the unfortunate event of an accident.

North Carolina Law restricts contractors from administering certificates of coverage to prevent contractors from committing insurance fraud. In the past, unethical companies have forged expiration dates after they have expired and administered them to potential customers. A certificate of insurance with your name as the certificate holder should always come directly from the contractor’s insurance company and sent straight to you. When we send you a quote “for bidding purposes,” a copy of our insurance is attached for you to review. Upon request, once you have scheduled the tree work, we can send your information to our insurance company to request a certificate of insurance to be sent directly to you.

Does all tree debris get taken away?

When we estimate for tree removal or trimming this includes all tree debris being removed from the site, unless otherwise requested, except for stump grinding chips. These chips are left in the holes and the surrounding area of where the stumps are ground. If requested, the chips can be removed from the holes for an additional fee, and the homeowner is responsible for filling in the holes.

How much stump chips are left behind?

This varies depending on the size of the stump and how much the stump is ground (generally we grind approximately 4 inches below ground surface). Some larger stumps will produce large mounds of chips, and many of our homeowners use these chips for mulch in other places in their yard.

Can I keep sections of the wood for firewood?

Yes. If you would like to keep some of the wood from your trees for firewood our crew can cut these into 12″ to 18″ inch logs and leave onsite. If you inform the office at the time of the estimate, we can add that into the scope of work.

Is there a discount if I pay cash?

We do not discount jobs if an individual is paying cash. There are companies that do slash prices for cash on the spot giving you a cash price to do your work, but this usually means that they are paying their workers’ cash, not paying taxes on their jobs and not paying the proper workers’ compensation on the individuals that are performing work at your house. Although this may save you money, in the event that a worker gets injured performing your tree service, the worker can sue you and your insurance company to recuperate for their doctor bills, personal injury and more.

Do you offer payment plans?

Depending on the size and amount of the job, we do offer payment plans for some jobs. Once you have received your estimate, you can contact the office to see if there is a payment option available for your scope of work.
